To live in the Now is the way to go. I want to exorcise myself and all others around me of bad memories and demons, so we can truly move forward — make new friends, see new sights, make new memories.
Some things, admittedly, you do not want to forget. Some people, well, you would rather. Some feelings are merely recycled with new players and playmates in new playgrounds, and you find yourself moving past the bad times, and hope that with the Now, things will not end up the way the Past did.
When I was younger, I’d go through the painful but cheesy ritual of burning old letters and photographs of ex girlfriends and ex friends just to help me move on and move forward. With the technology now you realize it’s harder to rid yourself of those things, but it isn’t impossible. You press delete and you also make sure you press Confirm Delete. Technology just makes it more difficult, darn it.
You have one last barrier. Your own mind. But you have to understand you have full control of yourself, so you can choose to NOT return to the ugly, dark, painful past. Then you remind yourself that you are in the Now, and you choose to refuse to be reminded of anything that you’ve worked so hard to bury six feet underground. If you allow yourself to be weak, the rusty old knife of years past comes back and stabs you in the chest and crushes you again.
But. You kind of get a good feeling when you truly leave the past behind and not have anything on hand to remind you of those times, good or bad. And not have anything on hand to take you back.
Because it’s pointless. They’re ghosts. Nobody wants ghosts around.
